Myerstown Community Library Summer Learning Program

Check out the following FREE events! Events are organized by age group. Registration is required unless otherwise stated.

Family Programs: Recommended for all ages, unless otherwise stated.

Stay ‘n’ Play – Mondays: Building Sets, Thursdays: Puzzle & Board Games @ 11am – 2pm
Looking for a way to pass the time? Drop-in at the library for activities all summer! We will have scavenger hunts, coloring pages, and more! An adult must remain at Library with child(ren). No registration required.

Mini Canvas Open Studio Time – June 10, June 24, July 8 ALL DAY
Pick up a blank canvas at the Library to decorate as you wish! Decorate it with supplies you have at home, or stop by for Open Studio Time. All ages encouraged! We will display the canvases in our Gallery 199 during the month of August!

Preschool Story Time – Fridays @ 10:30am, all summer (except July 3)!
Join us for books, songs, and a craft! Kids will grow their social skills and work on age-appropriate developments, such as listening to directions, learning Left & Right, and using scissors and glue sticks. Recommended for ages 3-5, siblings welcome. No registration required.

ABC Babies and Books – June 8, 15, 29; July 6, 13, 20; August 3, 10, 17 @ 11am
ABC Babies and Books is an interactive story time for children ages 0-2 and their caregivers. Miss Eileen leads this fun program, and older siblings are welcome to attend! No registration required.

BYOB, Jr. Book Club (Bring Your Own Book) – June 8, July 13, August 10 @ 3:30pm
This book club is for independent readers of chapter books and graphic novels. Join us for cookies and conversation while we chat about whatever we’ve been reading lately! No registration required.

Waterbug Book Club – Thursdays, June 11 through August 6 (except July 2) @ 1pm
Join Miss Sarah for Storytime and popsicles at the Myerstown Pool! Registration not required. Pool admission is necessary.

Pokemon Club – June 27, July 25, August 29 @ 11am
Bring your own decks or devices to join in the fun! All skill levels are welcome. Recommended for ages 6 and up.

Dinosaur Expedition Adventure with Paleontologists Roberta & Mike Straka – June 9 @ 5pm
Get up close to actual dinosaur fossils and learn more from real-life dinosaur experts. Register early – this show is limited to 60 children!

Holly Serio – June 16 @ 5pm
Interactive music program. Participation is encouraged during this feel-good performance incorporating music, movement, and games!

Local Author Visit & Story Time – June 22 @ 11am
Author Ethan Eshleman will share his new story, “How to Pet a Porcupine.” Join us for a short craft and book signing after the story!

Mister Boom Boom – June 23 @ 5pm
Interactive music program. Learn more about rhythm and percussion during this entertaining program!

Baby Goat Snuggle Party – July 7 @ 5pm
This is an outdoor event with Steinmetz Family Farm and their baby goats! Come join the snuggle party and pet a baby goat (or two).

Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary – July 14 @ 5pm
Join us for this WILD show all about scaly critters! Jesse will bring his rescued reptiles for this hands-on program. Register early – this show was standing-room-only last year!

6th Annual Pet Show & Hot Dog Picnic – July 21 @ 5pm
Pre-register your scaled or furry friend to complete in our Annual Pet Show! For the humans, we’ll have hot dogs and cookies! This is an outdoor event.

Mini Canvas Gallery Opening – August 5 @ 4pm
Join us as we display our library patrons’ Mini Canvas Creations at our own Gallery 199! All are welcome! The canvases will be on display until the end of August.

Are you into YA books and graphic novels? Do you want to chat about what you’ve been reading lately? Join us for cookies and conversation at the library! Open to 9th grade and up.

Butterfly in the Sky – June 10 @ 1pm
Practice your camouflage skills by decorating a blank butterfly to blend into the library! Can you fool library patrons like moths and butterflies fool their predators?

Tie-Dye Party – June 17 @ 1pm
Bring your own item to tie-dye, all other supplies are proived. We do not recommend socks, towels, or blankets, but try a t-shirt, tote, pajama shorts, or pillowcase! This event is outdoors.

Dinosaur Origami – June 24 @ 1pm
Try your hand at this paper art form! Fold a bookmark or a free-standing dino. Supplies are provided.

Hamilton Sing-Along – June 26 @ 5pm
Don’t throw away your shot! Join us for an after-hours showing of the hit musical, Hamilton! This event will include crafts, light refreshments, and of course, singing is strongly encouraged. Come to the library and be in the room where it happens… Hamilton is rated PG-13, and this program is ages 13 and up. Run time: 2hrs 40min.

Dinosaur Terrarium – July 8 @ 1pm
Create a Jurassic scene with dirt, stones, live plants, and dinosaur figurines! Supplies are provided.

Book Bedazzling – July 15 @ 1pm
Decorate a copy of your favorite book with gemstones! Supply your own book, and we’ll provide the rest.

Coffee with a Colonial – July 16 @ 5:30pm
Local reenactor and historian, Sam Leamer, joins us for coffee and conversation, in character as an American soldier during the Revolutionary War. Drop-in for this family-friendly event that puts a fun spin on history! Where the world is so busy today, Mr. Leamer invites you to take a pause and enjoy the simple pleasure of conversation over and about coffee, either of the 18th or the 21st century variety. Recommended for all ages.

#Game+Chill – July 22 @ 4pm
Join us for an evening of video games. #Game+Chill provides the consoles and controllers. YOU provide the skills and competition!
